About Host-Plant
This small shop is a celebration of native plants and the local pollinators, insects, and birds they support. All seeds are native, foster ecological life, and are grown in urban gardens in Brooklyn and Newburgh, NY.
The name Host-Plant is a reference to the specific plant / animal relationships that are essential to ecological life. (The Monarch butterfly's dependence upon the milkweed plant as a caterpillar food source is just one example of a host plant relationship.) Host-Plant is also a celebration of plant/ people relationships - we host plants in our gardens, we host others with plants to provide food, ornament, medicine, and meaning. I believe that we have the joy and responsibility to better steward the earth for all life. This shop is one small step to encourage biodiversity, expand food webs, and bring joy, one seed at a time.
I design and carve block prints of the plants and the animals they support, and hand print each package of seeds. Native seeds have specific germination requirements (they need an actual or simulated winter!) so please read the germination instructions before purchase and planting.
ENJOY YOUR PLANTS!
