Sweet Black-eyed Susan / Rudbeckia subtomentosa
A sweet-smelling, late-summer bloomer with bright, cheerful flowers. Open-pollinated, native plant seeds in hand-printed packages.
PLANT: Robust plant with branching stems and bright yellow daisy-like flowers with brown centers. Blooms throughout the late summer and early fall, tough plant and long lasting in the garden.
FAUNA: Supports solitary bees, specialist bees, butterflies/moths, wasps, flies, beetles, and birds. Excellent cut flower, reblooms on branching stems after cutting.
ORIGIN/CULTURE: Michigan and Wisconsin south to Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Moist prairies and bottomlands.

Germination: Sow outdoors in fall. For indoor or spring planting, cold stratify seeds at 40 degrees F for 60 days before sowing to mimic winter cold period. An easy method is to put the seeds in the fridge in a resealable bag mixed with a small amount of barely moist growing medium or sand.
